The Futbol Spirit - where passion meets skill

Founded by Cristian Couto Calderon in 2022, C.C Futbol Academy is a youth-focused soccer development provider with a track record of building successful grassroot programs. We have partnered with schools, child care centres and academies across North Queensland and beyond developing over 1,000 young athletes annually.

Our Coaching Team

At C.C Futbol Academy, we are proud to have a highly skilled and passionate coaching team dedicated to developing players both on and off the field. Our lead coaches bring extensive experience and qualifications, and they are supported by a strong group of additional coaches who add unique value to our academy. Together, this blend of professional expertise, local knowledge, and community connection allows us to provide a supportive, high-quality football environment that nurtures every player’s development.

Cristian Couto Calderon
Founding Director/Head Coach

Cristian Couto Calderon brings a level of expertise and experience in football development that is rarely found in our region. With a proven background in youth development and program design for both recreational and competitive players, Cristian has shaped pathways for young footballers at the highest level.

In Spain, the home of world football, he served as Technical Director and Head Coach for Inter Mostoles F.C. and worked closely with internationally renowned clubs including Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid (Foundation) leading their youth programs as Head Coach.

​

Cristian's background as a UEFA Pro B Licensed coach with a Degree in Sports Science, equips him with both the technical knowledge and scientific insight to deliver elite-level coaching. His combination of international experience, professional qualifications, and passion for player development sets him apart as one of the best in the field.​​​

​Cristian’s background also includes extensive experience as a player. He began playing futsal at the age of five and quickly progressed to representing the Real Madrid Foundation. In 2007, he joined second division club A.D. Alcorcón and later moved to the United States in 2015 to play for Lane United FC. He relocated to Port Douglas shortly after, where he advanced his focus on youth development through coaching Football Australia’s FNQ elite squads (SAP/TSP) over a two-year period. His structured, high-intensity coaching methodology enhanced player performance, resulting in eight athletes achieving state-level selection to represent Queensland.

Widely respected in the Cairns football community, Cristian is known for his energetic coaching style and elite training methods. His philosophy blends advanced Spanish methodologies with a deep tactical understanding of the game. He places strong emphasis on technical development, tactical intelligence, and mental resilience—creating an environment where players not only grow as athletes but also as individuals. Cristian is committed to nurturing talent through teamwork, discipline, and a love for the game. He believes in playing the right way—not just aiming to win, but to win by playing good football. His passion, strategic insight, and dedication to player development are the driving force behind the academy’s vision and success.

Bruno Silva
Head Coach (High-Performance)

Bruno brings a global perspective enriching the academy with his international experience and commitment to player development. His coaching career began in Portugal, where he guided players from grassroots to elite pathways. With a strong focus on individual growth, goal setting, and fostering a genuine love for the game, Bruno is dedicated to creating a high-quality and inclusive development environment. He is excited to help guide young players into a new era of excellence.

Bruno’s extensive coaching background includes serving as Technical Director at Lane Cove FC (NSW), where he successfully led the club’s female program for two seasons. He later took on the role of Coach Development Manager with Soccer and Sports Kickstart, further strengthening his expertise in player and coach education. Most recently, Bruno served as the Cairns Hub Mentor and Head Coach for the Moriarty Foundation, where he played a key role in supporting and mentoring young indigenous footballers.

Known for his dynamic personality and commitment to excellence, Bruno holds a Degree in Sports Science and a Master in Teaching (Physical Education). He currently holds an AFC (C Licence) and is in the process of completing his B Licence, further enhancing his coaching credentials.
